World Bank Policy Proposal
The Issue:
The majority of Kenya's population depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. More than 75% are smallholder, subsistence farmers, making them extremely vulnerable to natural disasters including droughts and flooding.
My Role:
I worked closely with the World Bank authors of a policy report meant for the Vice President of Kenya. I edited the final draft into one that makes a strong and clear argument for national agricultural insurance. The final draft distilled complex insurance terms and models into language easily understood by an educated general audience.
The Result
After reviewing the report, the government of Kenya adopted and in 2015 began implementing the national agricultural insurance scheme proposed by the World Bank.
